For the California State Parks, Russian River District
Sonoma County, CA
Completed: 2006
The area between Occidental and the mouth of the Russian River in Sonoma County had been owned by a timber company and logged for decades before being sold to the California State Parks. The timber company left extensive damage to the landscape and the habitat. This is especially a problem because Willow Creek feeds into the Russian River and is a spawning ground for steelhead and coho salmon.
Campbell Grading Inc decommissioned several miles of logging roads and stream crossings, and converted roughly one mile of road into a sustainable trail. We removed over 40,000 cubic yards of sediment and recontoured the landscape to recreate the natural, erosion free drainage pattern.
