For the National Park Service and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy
Marin County, CA
Completed: 2010
Campbell Grading, Inc undertook a project at Muir Beach with goals of restoring the ecology and improving the visitors’ experience. The project was a piece of the larger work on the Redwood Creek Watershed with the National Park Service and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.
Campbell Grading, Inc. restored the ecology at Muir Beach by eliminating sediment run-off previously happening on the trail, reducing the number of culverts (from two to one), increasing the size of the culvert (from 18" to 36"), and improving the overall water circulation of the tributary to the Redwood Creek watershed through drain lenses, stone step pools, and an appropriately located out sloped trail.
Campbell Grading, Inc. also improved the user experience by routing users along the coastal trail, which takes in the vistas of the Redwood Creek watershed. The users experience was also improved though the reduction of the trail’s grade (from 17% to 10-12% grade). Other needs were also address, such as constructing and improving the emergency access road through the site.
