Mt. Tamalpais, just minutes north of San Francisco, provides excellent hiking opportunities and an easy escape from the city. Campbell Grading Inc. decommissioned an old fire road that went down the fall line of the ridge. The road was massively eroded, with four-foot deep gullies at points, and sediment was freely flowing into the Pacific Ocean.
In decommissioning the road, we installed erosion control materials to prevent future sediment migration. Campbell Grading Inc. converted part of the road to a trail, leaving a smaller footprint on the land. We also cut a fresh trail which followed the natural geographic contours.
